The Culture in Africa
Missionaries faced many difficulties while trying to spread the Gospel in Africa. The largest problem they faced was slavery. From about 1600 to the 1800's millions of Africans were sold into slavery by European and American slave traders. The missionaries worked HARD to fight slavery by buying people out of slavery and by helping the children who were left alone when their parents were taken away and they teached them how to live on their own.

Another problem was the rivalries between the numerous missionaries in Africa. Africans often saw christians fighting, making hem believe that the religion was pretty violent. Conflicts arose between French priests and the Dutch and British missionaries and Protestant missionaries and Catholics often fought because of close proximity to one another.
Other problems, not including the resistance ot the missionaries' efforts, included persecution, inter-religious fighting, natural dangers, and colonial interference, but the church did slowly grow throughout Africa, and now Africa is the fastest growing part of the worldwide church.
